December update

Hello all! Sorry for not being too active recently, I have been extremely busy. Thanksgiving break was a dozy because of family health issues, and the past two months have been hectic. I also have had to send back in my Mac laptop charger, so I am currently laptop-less, and therefore have a backpile of you guy's custom names. Don't worry, I have a queue list for you guys.

As for the Doctor Who, it has been coming along, despite crawling at a snails pace. And I have gotten a request to do a community theme, Inverted. Basically taking the current images and inverting the colors. I am planning to do this one after the release of Doctor Who, and keeping as up-to-date as possible for the icons.

Thankfully, in about two weeks I'll be on winter break, so I'll have time to do everything then. By that time, the charger should be back in. So, until then mo chairde,

3.1.2 and you.

Apple released 3.1.2 about a week after the Dev Team released their 3.1.1 jailbreak. Well, they were on top of the ball with it, and they already have a jailbreak out for 3.1.2.

Here are the facts you need to know:
If you already have a jailbroken device, great! Just download Pwnage tool to create a custom restore, and restore with that. No DFU or recovery mode needed. At the moment, the newest Pwnage tool is only available for Mac, but don't fret Windows users, you can download custom restores from the web and just shift-click restore, and presto, 3.1.2!

To cover anything I may have missed, check the Dev Teams post. It's always good to know all the details.

In other news, I'm still working on the Doctor Who theme, but with school and such, I am getting bogged down. I have been making time in my schedule for any custom themes you guys want to throw my way. It's always great to make some people happy.

Until next time (and lets hope next time will have some screenshots),

Clearing the air.

If anyone is following the comments on the Advanced Lock like I am, you may haven noticed that Greg Adams (A.K.A. Pear-Phone) just stepped forward as the originator of the fingerprint scanner idea. I had previously given whateverman the credit because I did get the idea from him, but I want to take this time and thank Greg for designing this idea.

Just a little fun fact, Pear-Phone was first intimated way back on firmware 1.1.3 or 1.1.4.

Once again, thank you for stepping forward mate, and I'll be sure to give you credit where it's due.

Jailbreaks

As I'm sure some of you guys know, you can jailbreak for practically every device out there (those of you buying the new 3g iTouch (no, not a 3G iTouch, just the 3rd gen) are a little our of luck right now). But beyond that, everybody can update to a jailbroken version of 3.1.

As of the moment, I am getting swamped by school work, but I will have a jailbreak video up when I get the chance.

iPhone 1st gen, iPhone 3G, and first gen iPod now have a jailbreak

That's right folks, Dev-Team has worked out a jailbreak for the aforementioned firmwares. Currently only available with PwnageTool 3.1 for Mac OS X, but is working on releasing a redsn0w version for all devices and on all OS's. For more information on what you should (and shouldn't) do, check out the Dev-Team post here.

3.1.1

So Apple has released 3.1.1. What does this mean for you?

Well, first things first, if you are jailbroken, DO NOT UPGRADE TO THIS. You will lose your jailbreak, and if you are a unlocked iPhone user, you will lose your unlock. This will also upgrade your baseband, and from what I'm reading on the Dev-Team blog, there is no way of going back to what you had before. My advice is sit tight on 3.0 or 3.0.1, depending on your device, and keep an eye here. I'll bring you updates about the jailbreaking process as I learn about it, and I'll even post a walkthrough of how to jailbreak when it's all good to go.

Updates

I know it's been a while, so here I am with some updates for you guys.

First things first, The Spirit has been released! Like I mentioned before, you can find it on the iSpazio repo, and I would like to take the time to say thank you to everyone that has downloaded it so far.

If you look closely though, you will see that it was released exactly a week ago. Why no post then? Well, I've been having laptop issues. First the charger, then a mistake on my part when I went to do a Boot Camp partition. But, with my handy Sonic Screwdriver (hint to next theme), I was able to fix it. So basically, I have a brand new Mac in the shell of a Mac that is a year old.

And now to new business. If you haven't gotten the hint from above yet, my next theme is going to be a Doctor Who theme. This theme may take even longer then The Spirit, considering that school has started and is hogging up a good portion of the free time I once had. But don't fret, I'll be working diligently to get it out as soon as possible.

I would like to thank all of you that have downloaded and emailed me, as well as those that have went the extra mile to donate to me. It is a really big help, and I greatly appreciate it.

Until next time,

PayPal donations and Unique themes for you

Thanks to a recent conversation with someone that wanted a custom name, I now have a PayPal account open for donations. Just go to PayPal.com, click on the "Send Money" link, and enter in lostknight22@gmail.com in the "To" box.

This has also helped me work out my long-time running kink of how to charge for unique themes. If you would like a theme that is your very own, not another like it, please email me with your ideas and any photos that I may need (family, pets, ect.). I'm still working out prices, I will post them as soon as I can.

Also, The Spirit theme is nearing completion. Getting the icons done are a little harder then I first thought, so please bear with me, and as soon as I get it done I will post it to hackthatifone.com

Installing themes directly on your iPhone or iPod.

After a little bit of messing around lately, I have figured out a question that many people have asked me when I have sent them their custom theme: "Is there a way to install this without a computer?" Well, now the answer is a resounding YES!

EDIT: YouTube video is up, watch it here.

THINGS YOU WILL NEED TO GET FROM CYDIA TO DO THIS:
1. Safari Download Plug-In: available from the BigBoss repo.
2. iFile: also available from BigBoss.

Install both these files. iFile will show up on your springboard.

Now, open up Safari and go to your email account. Open the email with the custom theme attached, and tap on the zip file. A new window will open and give you the option to "Download" or "Play". Please make a note of the name of the file (you will be able to see it near the top of the screen, right under the address bar). Tap Download, and a progress bar will come up.

Once the file is done downloading, launch iFile. You will start off in the /var/mobile folder. Tap on Library, then scroll down to the "Downloads" folder. Find the file you just downloaded and tap it. From the menu that opens up, select "zip viewer". In the lower right corner of the screen there will be an icon, tap that and chose to extract all files. Tap Done, and you will see a new folder with the name of the theme you have been emailed. Tap edit and select the folder, then tap the icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select copy. Tap done, and then keep tapping the arrow on the top left of the screen to go back all the way to the "/" directory.

Once in the "/" directory, scroll up and select Library, then scroll all the way to the bottom and select Themes. Once there, tap edit and then the lower right icon again and select paste. Tap done, and go back to the springboard. Open up WinterBoard, and your new theme will be at the top of the list.

I hope this helps all those who need it. Thank you to all of you that have emailed me for the custom names, and I'll keep posting my theme updates and whatnot for you guys to check out.

The Spirit theme update!

Well, I've made a few changes to The Spirit theme, and I thought you guy would like to see it.

Here is the new look of the home screen:

And here is a better look at the background:

I did take out the dock image, so what you see is all wallpaper. It works better in my opinion. Still working on icons, and I still might tweak a few things, so you'll have to be waiting a little bit longer for this. I'd like to thank Foxy from HackThatiFone.com for a brainstorm session about this.

New theme in the works.

Hey all, just letting you guys get an advanced look at one of the themes I'm working on, The Spirit. You should remember it from the movie a few years back, or the comic book. Keep in mind that these images are not the final product by any means; I still have many icons to work on and I'm thinking about tweaking the dock image.

Lockscreen (Props to Winterboarder, where I got the idea from for the Tap to Unlock):

One of the pages:

A better view of the wallpaper and the dock:

Things I'm thinking of changing:

I'm thinking I might try using the brick patter behind the silhouette to make the letters better, depending how it works. If not, Chris Edwards, developer of Icon Shadow (allowing you to have a drop shadow behind the icon text) has given me permission to integrate that into the theme.

Let me know what you think guys!

Thank you all!!!

I want to thank everyone that has made Advanced Lock a huge hit!!! The current counts is up to 33,010, including the custom names. A shoutout to whateverman24791 (Alex Kleber) for the whole fingerprint scan idea, along with the images. Thank you very much mate, I'm glad you like it.

Adding your personalized theme

I've been getting lot's of email's about having me customize the Advanced Lock for them. Now I'll give you a quick walk through on how to add these theme to your iPhone and iPod.

EDIT: I would like to thank Emmanuel for pointing this out: make double sure you have OpenSSH installed on your device. This will allow the your device to allow incoming SSH connections. I know when I got my iPhone, I made the mistake of not adding this right away, and it boggled me for a little bit until it dawned on me.

First, make sure you have SBSettings installed on your device (to access SBSettings, swipe down on the status bar at the top of the screen). Use that to find your Wi-Fi Address (make sure your computer and your device are on the same wireless network). Next, connect to your device using Filezilla for Windows or Cyberduck for Mac. The user name is"root" and the password "alpine". Find the "/" directory, then go to library and then themes. Once in the themes folder, drop the AdvancedLock.theme file into it, then load up Winterboard on your device. You should see it ther if you did everything right.

EDIT: I've been informed by DEL that Filezilla requires you to have a host name... sadly, I can't test Filezilla because of my Mac laptop, so I recommend you use WinSCP for Windows.

Enjoy all!!!
